AI discovery starts with operational truth

AI-assisted discovery depends on accurate titles, attributes, categories, descriptions, availability, policies, reviews, and product relationships. Inconsistent data creates weak answers and poor customer expectations across every channel—not only AI surfaces.

Treat product data as shared commerce infrastructure with a named owner and a change-control process.

Readiness checklist

Review required attributes, taxonomy, variants, identifiers, imagery, inventory, shipping, returns, FAQs, compatibility, claims, reviews, and recurring customer questions. Reconcile differences between Shopify, marketplaces, feeds, and internal systems.

Prioritize high-revenue and high-question products first, then expand the standard across the catalog.

Measurement

Track catalog errors, suppressed products, customer questions, return reasons, AI-referred traffic when available, product-page engagement, and conversion. Platform availability and attribution will vary, so maintain a measurement plan that can evolve.

Review a commerce release across four connected effects

A commerce announcement can affect product discovery, the path from product view to purchase, advertising economics, and the work that can be automated. Assess all four together: a change that improves reach may still create a conversion, margin, eligibility, or service constraint.

For each release, record what is available, where it is available, eligibility and setup requirements, pricing or fees, attribution limits, required product data, and the teams or systems that need to act. Separate confirmed platform details from assumptions and verify account-specific availability before planning around it.

Set a before-and-after baseline for qualified discovery, product engagement, conversion, contribution after media costs, and operational exceptions. Use comparable products, periods, and traffic sources where possible; do not treat platform reach or reported attribution as proof of incremental profit.

Use this free resource on your own, or bring it to a free 15-minute fit call. A separate paid 60-minute assessment ($350–$750) produces a one-page scorecard, prioritized risks, a 30-day action plan, scope and quote.
